Job summary

The Culpeper Department of Social Services is hiring an entry-level Family Services Specialist I. You will be trained under supervision in Adult/Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, Foster Care/Adoption, Child Care, and Employment Services.

After completing the training and required approvals, you may advance to a full-performance Family Services Specialist II with a pay increase under the local compensation plan.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or a Bachelor's in any field with two years of related experience.
• Possession of a BSW or MSW is desirable and Virginia licensure considerations may apply.
• Ability to interpret laws, policies, and regulations in assigned areas.

Responsibilities

• Interprets laws, policies and regulations as applied to specific area of responsibility.
• Monitors, coordinates and administers programs as assigned.
• Coordinates services within specific area of responsibility.
• Interviews and assesses customer needs and factors such as education/skill levels and support systems.
• Informs clients of service programs rules and rights to participate.
• Presents cases to determine appropriate services and writes/implements service plans.
• Provides case management to monitor compliance.
• Manages program waiting lists.
• Tracks expenditures, prepares budget estimates and ensures payment for services.
• Completes federal, state and local planning and reporting requirements.
• Coordinates with other agencies and participates in interagency teams.
• Conducts monitoring of programs in area of responsibility.
• Provides after-hours on-call coverage and responds to emergencies in child/adult protective services.
