Job summary

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an Environmental Specialist I to oversee contamination assessment and remedial actions on state‑funded petroleum projects in Tallahassee. Under supervision of senior staff, you will coordinate with licensed professionals, review proposals, and manage contracts and documentation.

The role requires the ability to conduct site inspections, analyze data, and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

Qualifications

• Four years of verifiable related experience, or a post‑secondary degree used as a year‑for‑year substitute.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Knowledge of physical and natural sciences.
• Ability to conduct site inspections and analyze data.
• Experience with agency rules, procedures and guidance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee contamination assessment and remedial actions by cleanup contractors for state-funded petroleum projects.
• Review site cleanup files and proposals for technical and administrative adequacy.
• Coordinate with licensed professionals on comments and approvals for deliverables.
• Process contractor invoices and maintain site files (OCULUS/STCM).
• Monitor progress and ensure cost‑effective, timely cleanup.
