Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT is seeking an entry-level Component Engineer to support the Main Propulsion Switchboard and Protective Relay programs throughout the component lifecycle.

You will assist with testing, documentation, and vendor coordination, gaining exposure to Navy standards and cross-functional collaboration. A B.S. in EE or ME and 0–5 years of experience are required, with ability to obtain a DoD clearance and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• 0–5 years post-graduate engineering experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• Ability to travel and work second shift as required.

Responsibilities

• Support the engineering, testing, and documentation activities required to deliver switchboard and relay components that meet COLUMIA program requirements
• Assist in evaluating and resolving unexpected test findings at theIPS Component Test Facility (CTF) and at shipyard locations
• Participate in developing, reviewing, and maintaining component requirements and technical documentation
• Support compatibility testing, data review, engineering evaluations, and design update activities
• Review vendor engineering submittals and assist in providing technical disposition
• Assist in resolving component liabilities through testing, vendor support, or technical justification
• Work with shipyard personnel, test teams, and suppliers to ensure proper component integration and delivery
• Prepare technical communications, including memos, reports, and responses for Naval Reactors, NAVSEA, and the Naval Nuclear Laboratory
• Support spare parts management, obsolescence evaluations, and fleet support requests
