Job summary

WesTech in Salt Lake City is seeking an entry-level Electrical Designer 1 to develop electrical control panel designs, layouts, and technical documentation for municipal and industrial water treatment projects.

You will work with engineers and senior designers under close supervision, learn industry codes (NEC, IEC, IEEE, UL, CSA), and participate in design reviews and site visits.

This role offers hybrid schedules with some travel, a competitive salary, and benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with 1–3 years of related experience, or pursuing an Associate Degree.
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
• Knowledge of AC and DC power and control circuits.
• Ability to read and understand technical specifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and development of electrical systems, including control panels, power distribution and other low voltage systems.
• Prepare electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and layout drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, or similar)
• Support Engineers in performing calculations for branch circuit protection, conductor sizing, etc.
• Collaborate with other disciplines (mechanical, process, structural) to integrate electrical designs into overall project plans.
• Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEC, IEEE, UL, CSA)
• Maintain project documentation, including specifications, equipment schedules, and design changes.
• Participate in design review meetings and site visits as needed
• Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and assist with cost estimates.
• Stay updated on the latest electrical design technologies and industry trends.
• Trouble shooting electrical problems related to equipment in the field.
