Job summary

ASM Research seeks a Junior Cybersecurity Incident Response Engineer to monitor enterprise security tools and logs, detect threats, and triage events in a regulated federal IT environment. You will escalate significant incidents and support basic containment and recovery actions under senior guidance.

The role emphasizes initial investigations, documentation, and alignment with security policies and procedures while contributing to improvements in detection fidelity and automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in IT, CS, Cybersecurity, or related field.
• 0–3 years of experience in cybersecurity, IT operations, or related technical roles with exposure to security monitoring and incident triage.
• Foundational understanding of cybersecurity concepts, attack techniques, and SOC roles in detection/response.
• Hands-on familiarity with security tools (SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, vulnerability scanners).
• Active SECRET clearance or ability to obtain and maintain required clearance.
• U.S. citizenship required to support federal information security requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills for fast-paced SOC work.

Responsibilities

• Monitor SIEM and security tooling to review events and identify patterns signaling threats or policy violations.
• Perform Tier 1 alert triage by validating context, determining severity, filtering false positives, and generating documented tickets for escalation.
• Assist with incident response activities, gathering evidence and supporting containment under guidance of senior analysts.
• Document investigations with timelines, data sources, actions, and handoffs for audits and follow-on analysis.
• Maintain familiarity with security technologies and interpret how alerts surface within SOC tools.
• Follow SOC SOPs, playbooks, and reporting formats while contributing improvements.
• Support tuning of rules, use cases, and dashboards to reduce noise and improve detection.
