Job summary

Bedford County Children & Youth Services is seeking an entry-level County Caseworker 1 to assist families in accessing services and moving toward safer home environments. Training will build skills to apply rules and coordinate resources within a supportive team.

The role involves evaluating family needs, guiding clients through programs, and maintaining accurate case records. Telework is not offered; standard hours are 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with occasional after-hours on-call work included.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level coursework including 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences; or
• A bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training including 12 credits in sociology/social sciences and one year of paraprofessional case management experience.
• Applicants may meet educational requirements within two months of graduating.

Responsibilities

• Needs assessment to evaluate family needs and identify supports for safer home situations
• Resource coordination to help clients understand community programs and complete forms
• Team collaboration to achieve positive outcomes for children and families
• Policy application to support appropriate case decisions per laws and regulations
• Client support to assist children, parents, and caregivers facing challenges
• Record keeping of all case activities and services provided
