Job summary

Southland Industries in Pflugerville, TX seeks an Estimator/Cost Analyst to assist with preliminary budgets, conceptual and detailed estimates on smaller, less complex projects. You will work with drawings, perform material take-offs, and help prepare bid packages for competitive bids.

Strong Excel and basic drafting skills are desirable. This role supports project updates, cost tracking, and historical data management to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred, or trade school or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Good analytical skills
• Basic ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
• Basic ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
• General knowledge of construction costs and principles
• Basic ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply fractions, percentages, ratios and prorations
• Basic drafting skills
• Competent Excel and Word skills
• Basic knowledge of Quick Pen Auto Bid Mechanical and Sheet Metal Estimating software

Responsibilities

• Assists with analysis of drawings and uses applicable software to perform material take-offs for detailed estimates and provides unit cost pricing.
• Assists with developing project updates and bid package estimate documents’ comparison.
• Tracks and adjusts quantities as needed; assists with resolving discrepancies.
• Assists with researching and compiling historical cost data and keeps database current for use in future estimate preparation.
• Maintains file of working project documents for back-up to estimating figures.
• Responds to basic questions from internal managers.
