Job summary

The City of Worcester is seeking a Junior Civil Engineer, Grade 3, in the Water Operations Division of the Department of Public Works. The role supports field and office engineering tasks, including plan reviews, inspection oversight, and coordination with contractors and the public.

Essential duties include inspecting construction projects, preparing labor/material estimates, and developing plans for water supply improvements.

Qualifications

Bachelor of science degree in civil or sanitary engineering; equivalent combination considered with 5 years of project experience.
Experience in engineering computations and research; strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Supervise and participate in inspection of engineering construction projects; ensure conformance with plans and specifications.
Prepare estimates for labor and material costs and develop plans for water distribution projects.
Review plans/applications for construction projects and provide resident engineering oversight.
Prepare work programs, budget estimates and regular reports; interact with contractors, consultants and the public.
