Job summary

The City of Worcester is seeking a Junior Civil Engineer, Grade 3, in the Water Operations Division of the Department of Public Works. You will perform entry-level technical and professional engineering work in office and field settings, reviewing plans and overseeing construction projects for the water distribution system.

Under supervision, you will interact with contractors, consultants, and the public, and may supervise sub-professional assistants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Sanitary Engineering or equivalent combination with five (5) years of engineering project experience.
• Experience in performing engineering computations and research.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid Driver's License PREFERRED

Job description

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Junior Civil Engineer, Grade 3 for the Water Operations Division within the Department of Public Works. Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Water Operations, the Junior Civil Engineer, Grade 3 will perform a wide array of entry level technical and professional engineering work in the office and in the field. Engineering duties will include tasks associated with construction, repair, and rehabilitation of the City's water distribution system. This position will review plans and applications for construction projects and will be assigned to conduct resident engineering oversight on public and private construction projects. Assignments are received from a supervising engineer, but the Junior Civil Engineer is expected to exercise independent judgment in planning and executing work details. This role may be required to supervise small groups of sub-professional assistants when needed. Successful candidates will interact regularly with contractors, consultants, and the public. Work will be supported and reviewed by experienced supervisors and senior engineers, creating a strong learning environment where you can sharpen your technical skills, expand your professional knowledge, and build a rewarding career.

QUALIFICATIONS:
