Job summary

The City of Worcester's Department of Public Works seeks a Junior Civil Engineer, Grade 3, in the Water Operations Division. Under supervision, you will perform entry-level engineering work in office and field, review plans for public/private construction, and provide resident engineering oversight.

This role offers learning by pairing with experienced engineers, opportunities to supervise small teams, and regular interaction with contractors and the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of science degree in civil or sanitary engineering or equivalent with 5 years' experience.
• Experience performing engineering computations and research.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and basic software tools.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and participate in inspection of engineering construction projects; check conformance with plans and specifications; submit reports on progress of project and materials used.
• Prepare estimates for labor and material costs.
• Prepare plans, specifications and estimates for water supply and distribution system rehabilitation and improvement projects, including checking plans in the field.
• Prepare work programs, budget estimates and regular and special reports.
• Perform related work as required.
