Job summary

WV Department of Human Services in West Virginia seeks an entry-level Caseworker for the Bureau for Child Support Enforcement in McDowell County. Under supervision, you will learn to process cases through location, case development, and initial notices to non-custodial parents regarding obligations.

You will acquire knowledge to manage a caseload, locate assets, calculate child support, research legal sources, and prepare case files for the BCSE Attorney.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required or substitution with paralegal/legal secretarial training may substitute 2 years of required training.
• Experience in legal research, reading and interpreting laws, preparing legal documents, and assisting in case file preparation under attorney supervision.
• Debt collections, credit investigations, criminal investigations, law enforcement, accounting, or auditing experience relevant.
• Experience as Economic Service Worker or Family Support Specialist may substitute for required training.
• Must have valid driver’s license and vehicle availability in some cases.
• Probationary period of 12 months.
• Agency substitution rules may substitute for required training or experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform beginning level child support case work under supervision.
• Process cases through location, case development, and initial notices to non-custodial parents.
• Research legal sources and comply case information from public documents and other agencies.
• Prepare case files for BCSE Attorney and respond to customer service inquiries.
