Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team. Under physician and RN direction, you will maintain the sterile field and assist with equipment, supplies, and patient care during surgical procedures.

You will also help prep the OR environment and contribute to debriefing and quality improvements. Qualified candidates will have completed a Surgical Technology program, hold NBSTSA or NCCT certification, and current BLS.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a Surgical Technology program
• National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or NCCT certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Responsibilities

• Prepares and stages surgical environment / operating room for procedures.
• Gathers, checks, and opens supplies and equipment needed for procedures.
• Stages sterile surgical field with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions.
• Assists with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field; helps gowning and gloving.
• Performs dexterous tasks and assistance during procedures under surgeon direction.
• Prepares, labels and hands off specimens as appropriate.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization; assists in room cleanup and prep for next patient.
• Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices.
• Precepts entry-level staff and orients new colleagues.
