Job summary

City of Grand Rapids is seeking a Building Mechanic I to perform basic maintenance, repair, and upkeep of building systems in city facilities. This entry-level role supports the facilities team by assisting with routine tasks and responding to service requests under supervision.

You will troubleshoot plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and safety systems; read work orders, blueprints, and manuals; and coordinate with outside contractors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years of related trades or construction experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair building systems; troubleshoot components.
• Perform plumbing upkeep; winterize plumbing systems.
• Diagnose and repair doors; install locksets.
• Respond to service requests; work under supervision.
• Enter data for work orders and time sheets; coordinate with contractors.
