Job summary

The City of Grand Rapids seeks a skilled machinist to fabricate, modify, and repair equipment used by water and field operations. You will design, repair, and maintain shop and field equipment, while supporting building maintenance and on-site contractor work. A CDL, boiler license, and welding cert are required.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and at least three years of hands-on maintenance experience, with equivalent combinations considered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent, required.
• At least three years of maintenance/repair experience with shop equipment.
• Equivalent combination of training, education and experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Design, fabricate, repair equipment using lathes, mills, welders and presses.
• Write specifications for special equipment and manage inventory.
• Perform preventative maintenance on shop and field equipment.
• Troubleshoot plumbing, HVAC and building systems; perform carpentry.
• Assist contractors on site with HVAC, boiler, electrical and generator work.
• Maintain hydrant boilers used to thaw hydrants; service equipment.
• Shuttle equipment and fuel to job sites; train staff on hydrant boiler operation.
• Report and track facility repairs and contractor maintenance.
