Job summary

County of San Benito seeks a Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker I/II to support maintenance and repair of county buildings, facilities, and related equipment. The role includes grounds keeping, basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work under supervision.

At the I level, responsibilities are learned under direct guidance; II level may supervise inmate workers and handle broader maintenance tasks with less supervision. A valid CA driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
• Basic knowledge of building trades and grounds keeping methods.
• Ability to read and understand plans, construction drawings, and blueprints.
• Willingness to learn and operate under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist with general maintenance and semi-skilled work on County buildings, facilities, and equipment.
• Perform basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work.
• Maintain county grounds including mowing, weeding, and turf care.
• Respond to repair requests and assist with inspections of buildings and facilities.
• Operate hand tools and power equipment; assist with vehicle operation.
• In II, supervise 1–2 inmate workers on projects.
