Job summary

County of San Mateo is seeking a Utility Worker I/II to perform building and grounds maintenance, minor equipment repair, and material transport in a county facility. The role supports skilled trades and custodial tasks, with opportunities to learn and advance within FM&O.

Ideal candidates are organized, safety-conscious and able to lead by example. A valid California driver license and willingness to work in a county setting with background checks are required.

Qualifications

• One year of experience providing building and facility maintenance and minor equipment repair.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and practices.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate power tools and equipment.
• Valid California driver license or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lift, move, load, arrange, and transport materials or supplies.
• Operate and maintain equipment and hand tools for buildings, grounds, and facilities.
• Assemble, maintain, and repair equipment and furniture.
• Instruct and supervise incarcerated individuals or other staff in work.
• Order, receive, and deliver supplies; review invoices against deliveries.
• Water, trim, and remove trees, plants, and weeds; dig holes and clear gutters.
