Job summary

The City of Norfolk IT Department seeks a Network Engineer IV to lead a team of network engineers, drive modernization initiatives, and ensure secure, resilient city-wide network services. You will mentor staff, manage complex projects, and coordinate with cybersecurity and other IT teams to deliver reliable infrastructure.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in IT with 3+ years in network engineering, strong documentation skills, and relevant certifications; a Bachelor’s degree is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years IT experience with three years in network engineering.
• Experience leading technical teams and projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor a team of IT professionals.
• Ensure monitoring, troubleshooting, and timely resolution of network issues.
• Provide guidance and training on emerging technologies.
• Develop and maintain documentation for configurations and procedures.
• Support disaster recovery strategies and business continuity.
• Coordinate cross-team collaboration with cybersecurity, applications, and public safety groups.
• Manage network upgrades, replacements, and lifecycle projects.
• Ensure network configurations adhere to security standards and access controls.
• Review and validate proposals, SOWs, and vendor documentation.
