Job summary

City of Chesapeake is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer to strengthen enterprise security capabilities, focusing on security architecture and network security, with threat detection and governance of AI security requirements across the organization.

The role covers defining security reference architectures, supporting testing/remediation, and overseeing controls across hybrid networking, cloud platforms, virtualization, and monitoring to improve resilience during security events.

Qualifications

• Education/experience as specified: a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• Minimum of 4 years in security roles across IT infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure and vulnerability patch management.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain enterprise security architectures with emphasis on network security.
• Define and enforce Zero Trust principles using network micro-segmentation and identity-aware access control.
• Create and maintain security reference architectures, standards, and design documentation for network topology and encryption.
• Provide architectural oversight for firewalls, routers, switches, VPNs, endpoint security/XDR, email security, SIEM telemetry, and vulnerability management.
• Perform threat modeling and architectural risk assessments focused on network attack surfaces and protocol vulnerabilities.
• Coordinate penetration testing with focus on network exploitation paths and firewall rule validation.
• Define secure network design patterns for on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.
• Define and govern security requirements for AI/ML platforms, data pipelines, and model interfaces.
• Establish security requirements for AI workloads handling sensitive data.
