Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing is required.
• RN license issued by the state of California.
• BART certification at hire or BLS certification with six months to obtain it.
• House Supervisor with placement experience or Inpatient System Flow experience (RN).
• Four (4+) years of inpatient RN experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills across leadership levels in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to manage complex workflow and multiple priorities in patient care.
• Knowledge of nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills for problem solving.
• Ability to train and mentor subordinates; strong documentation and reporting skills.
• Knowledge of HR policies and performance management considerations.
• Hospital management experience and flow optimization capabilities.
• Disaster incidents and sentinel event management expertise.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient placement across UCSDH locations ensuring alignment with clinical needs.
• Follow bed management protocols during census changes and communicate updates during bed huddles.
• Collaborate with Unit Charge Nurses to prioritize bed placement for EDIP and Post-Op patients.
• Lead daily bed meetings for organized patient placement coordination.
• Monitor discharge delays and resolve barriers to throughput.
• Facilitate real-time care team communication for safe transitions.
• Participate in performance and quality improvement initiatives to enhance flow.
• Apply clinical expertise and policies to support patient transitions enterprise-wide.
• Coordinate interfacility transfer requests based on clinical needs and bed availability.
• Serve as central hub between referring providers, physicians, nursing teams, transport, and leadership.
• Facilitate physician-to-physician consultations in line with policies.
• Monitor transfer volumes and turnaround times; escalate urgent issues as needed.
• Support EMTALA compliance and transfer documentation requirements.
• Collaborate with Mission Control, Bed Management, EDs, and inpatient units for system-wide flow.
• Provide triage and prioritization of transfer requests using nursing judgment.
• Maintain awareness of capacity and service availability to ensure access and throughput.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
