Job summary

M&T Bank is seeking a senior leader to manage and operate its enterprise AI platform, including the Azure API Management gateway and Azure AI Foundry. You will guide platform strategy, lifecycle, vendor oversight and security controls in a regulated environment.

The role requires extensive leadership experience in platform engineering, cost management and cross-functional collaboration with Technology, Risk and Compliance teams. Based in Buffalo, NY, the position focuses on reliability and scale.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 11 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including leadership experience.
• Direct experience operating API gateway infrastructure at scale (e.g., Azure API Management).
• Experience with Azure cloud services and Terraform or comparable tooling.
• Experience managing production gateway capabilities, traffic management and routing.
• Experience building and operating observability and cost monitoring.
• Experience in regulated industries (banking preferred).

Responsibilities

• Own the strategy, engineering and ongoing operation of M&T Bank’s enterprise AI platform, including gateway and Azure AI Foundry.
• Oversee gateway traffic management, rate limiting, identity integration and model routing.
• Establish and maintain platform SLAs, runbooks, on-call processes and incident response.
• Ensure platform reliability, scalability and regulatory compliance for AI use cases.
• Oversee model onboarding, lifecycle management and cost management.
• Build platform observability capabilities including OpenTelemetry and audit trails.
