Job summary

Western Alliance Bancorporation seeks a Principal Engineer I to lead the Foundry Administrator role, owning the strategy, governance, and operational support of the enterprise AI Gateway on Azure APIM and related AI platforms. You will architect scalable, secure AI services and drive standardized policies across the organization.

You will collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Cloud, Security, and business teams to enable safe AI consumption, monitor usage, optimize costs, and ensure high

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience administering Azure API Management (APIM).
• Bachelor's degree in related field required; Masters/MBA preferred.
• Leadership experience preferred or demonstrated.
• Knowledge of API security, OAuth, OpenID Connect, Managed Identities, Azure RBAC, and enterprise authentication/authorization frameworks.
• Experience with programming languages (C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript or Python).
• Experience with Microsoft Foundry, Azure AI Services, Azure OpenAI, AI Gateway technologies, or enterprise AI platform administration preferred.
• Experience deploying and managing MCP servers preferred.
• Strong communication skills and travel occasionally may be required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain platform standards, APIs, and governance for AI services.
• Design observability, monitoring, and analytics for AI workloads and model endpoints.
• Lead platform administration: environment provisioning, capacity planning, reliability, and incident response.
• Establish engineering best practices for AI workload lifecycle, deployment, and API publishing.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and provide technical guidance to leadership.
