Job summary

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is hiring a Surgical Technologist I for part-time, onsite work at our Boston campus. The role supports intraoperative care, assists surgeons and nurses, and requires strong teamwork and sterile technique.

Training shadowing is available to integrate with our ENT team across specialties. Ideal candidates have 0–2 years of experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and prefer BLS/CST credentials.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• BLS Certification preferred.
• CST NBSTSA preferred.
• Dental Assistant license preferred.
• Medical Technician NH license preferred.
• Experience as a Surgical Technologist I or in a similar role 0-1 year required.
• One year experience as Surgical Technologist in a similar setting 1-2 years preferred.
• Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques.
• Familiarity with surgical equipment and technology used in the operating room.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle stressful situations during surgeries.
• Understanding of infection control protocols and patient safety measures.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in various surgical procedures.
• Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
• Set up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment required for the surgery.
• Transport patients to the operating room and assist with positioning.
• Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team.
• Follow proper sterilization techniques to ensure cleanliness and sterility of instruments and supplies.
• Maintain documentation of surgical procedures, including counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other team members.
• Assist in preparing the surgical site by applying sterile drapes and solutions.
• Secure and manage surgical drains and catheters as directed by the surgeon
