DESCRIPTION:The Enrichment Instructor for Culinary Arts will lead engaging and age-appropriate food preparation instruction for students of varying skill levels. The Enrichment Instructor will have a strong background in culinary. They must possess the ability to motivate students, and have a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, safe, and energetic learning environment.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Review curriculum and create lesson plansFacilitate classroom-based lessons and activities applicable to elementary through highschool age rangeMaintain student engagement in course material and redirect unwanted behaviorsMaintain course equipment and see to cleanliness functionality; equipment includes but is not limited to: tabletop electric hotplates, cooking and eat utensils, aprons, cleaning suppliesCommunicate regularly with Coordinators regarding course matters including material needs, site specifics and curriculum efficacyPrepare ingredient lists for pre-order and retrieve food supplies from given grocersPlan and deliver classes in the basics of culinary arts that include but are not limited to: preparing cooking areas, recipe comprehension, cutting and manipulating ingredients, using heating elements, cleanliness and hygieneCreate opportunities to for students to practice techniques and while providing knowledge supporting itDevelop student skills that demonstrate mastery and creates a fun and positive learning environmentAdapt teaching methods to meet the needs of students with different abilities and experience levelsPrepare demonstrations that prepare students to showcase their skillsStay current with trends that are relevant and interesting for a range of student interestsEncourage collaboration and respect among studentsMaintain attendance records and participate in staff meetings or training sessions as needed#SD2QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience:Official / unofficial college transcripts that confirms 48+ completed college units (60 units for high school) or a passing score on an academic proficiency examExperience in instructing/teaching, especially with elementary to high school aged studentsAbility to assess and address student challengesAdaptive to communication styles, motivation needs, and different learning needsSchedule flexibility/availability pertinent to after school instruction hours based on the needs of a given course cycleExperience working with youth in diverse communitiesCPR Certification (Adult, Child, and Infant) preferredAdditional Requirements:Negative TB test resultCompletion of Live Scan background checkAvailability to work before/after school hours and some weekendsAbility to travel to assigned school sites and to the Arc officePHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
