YWCA Tri-County Area is seeking an English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) Academic Coach in Pottstown, PA. The part-time role (8 hours/week) pays $21.00/hour and includes planning time.

The instructor will teach ESL Level II, develop digital literacy, and use a web-based platform to support adult learners from diverse backgrounds. Responsibilities include lesson planning, student progress documentation, and collaboration with a team of teachers.

Job Title: English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) Academic Coach

Compensation: $21.00/hour

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Part-time, 8 hours/week

Shift: Tuesday & Wednesday, 6:00 PM-8:30 PM + 2 hours of planning time

Supervisor: Senior Director of Adult Education

Location: Pottstown, PA

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

YWCA Tri-County Area (YW3CA) provides English classes to adults whose first language is not English and want to learn English literacy skills so that they can get a job, navigate through the community, or continue their education.

YWCA is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated ESL instructor whose primary responsibility is to teach the intermediate level class of ESL students. The ESL program uses a web-based platform for instruction. The candidate who is interested in this position must have strong computer skills and be comfortable in using the computer and web-based program as a tool for instruction. As part of the instructional process using the web-based program, the instructor will help students develop their digital literacy skills. The instructor will implement supplemental activities to reinforce learning. The instructor will avoid lecture-style teaching and engage the students in conversation, activities, and practice to advance their skills learned.

The candidate should have previous experience teaching ESL and a sincere interest in working with individuals from other cultures, languages, and countries. The candidate must be able to create a positive learning environment for adult learners. Training will be provided to learn how to implement the web-based instruction program. The candidate will be working with a team of teachers who support and collaborate with each other.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (Includes, But Not Limited to):

Teach ESL Level II class, focusing on developing language skills in listening, speaking, writing, and reading.

Create a positive learning environment through lesson planning, instruction, professional development, and program improvement efforts.

Design and implement supplemental activities to reinforce key concepts and support student progress.

Use interactive teaching methods to engage students in conversations, hands-on activities, and practice, avoiding lecture-style instruction.

Provide supplemental distance learning opportunities to interested students in classes.

Facilitate communication activities that help students apply language skills in the workplace and within the community.

Maintain accurate documentation of student attendance, services provided, and progress.

Adhere to all guidelines set by YWCA, PA Dept of Education, and the web-based program developer.

Collaborate closely with team members in Pottstown and Norristown.

Participate in professional development training as required by the agency and state.

Attend monthly and quarterly program meetings.

Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations including, but not limited to, periodically reviewing goals, adjusting student placement if needed, and coordinating with the student support staff.

Able to accept guidance and feedback and support teamwork and efforts.

Education & Experience:

Minimum of bachelor’s degree required (BA or BS minimum).

Experience working with adults in education or related fields.
