Compensation: $26.00/hour
FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Full-time, 35 hours/week
Shift: Monday – Friday, 9:00AM - 4:00PM, includes 4 hours of planning time

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

YWCA Tri-County Area (YW3CA) provides high school diploma (GED) instruction to adults who are in pursuit of their high school diploma. The program serves a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and culturally different members of our community. The candidate must be comfortable working with learners who had previous negative learning experiences and must be sincerely interested in helping all students achieve.

YWCA is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated instructor whose primary responsibility is to prepare adult learners to pass their exam for their high school diploma while also supporting the digital literacy of all staff and students. The HSE program uses a variety of resources including web-based supplemental programs. The instructor must be able to teach a range of academic skills from low academic to high school level content. Instruction content areas is in reading, math, social studies, science, and writing. The candidate must be able to plan and implement appropriate instruction to close learning gaps that will help students move forward in their learning. The candidate must have previous experience teaching the content areas in either the high school or GED programs with a sincere interest in encouraging individuals to achieve their goals. The candidate must be able to create a positive learning environment for adult learners.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (Includes, But Not Limited to):
High School Equivalency Instruction:
  • Create a positive learning environment through lesson planning, instruction, professional development, and program improvement efforts.
  • Design and implement supplemental activities to reinforce key concepts and support student progress.
  • Use interactive teaching methods to engage students in conversations, hands-on activities, and practice, avoiding lecture-style instruction.
  • Provide supplemental distance learning opportunities to interested students in classes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student attendance, services provided, and progress.
  • Adhere to all guidelines set by YWCA, PA Dept of Education, and the web-based program developer.
  • Collaborate closely with team members in Pottstown and Norristown.
  • Participate in professional development training as required by the agency and state.
  • Attend monthly and quarterly program meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations including, but not limited to, periodically reviewing goals, adjusting student placement if needed, and coordinating with the student support staff.
Digital Literacy Specialist:
  • Work with staff to ensure that students receive the technology support they need to participate successfully in distance learning and gain the digital literacy skills needed for employment.
  • Maintain the digital literacy infrastructure in YW3CA programs and keep current with trends in digital literacy (specific to education and employment).
  • Participate with the program administrator and the in-house professional development specialist as part of the program professional development team to create and maintain the program improvement/professional development worksheet.
  • Be an active member in the program improvement team.
  • Provide leadership to instructors and tutors in integrating digital literacy into instruction.
  • Work with the program administrator and the in-house professional development specialist to guide and document staff professional development in support of the program improvement/professional development worksheet.
  • Support staff to address individual professional development goals related to their digital literacy needs.
  • Be the point of contact with the Digital Literacy and Distance Education project.
  • Follow all guidelines as required by our state and federal grant funder as well as YWCA requirements and guidelines.

Education & Experience:
