Job summary

The Newark Board of Education is hiring an English Teacher to join our district. You will plan and deliver instruction that meets diverse student needs, evaluate progress, and communicate with families and staff to support achievement.

Qualifications

• NJ Department of Education standard certificate or CE/CEAS as required.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans a program of study meeting students' needs, interests and abilities.
• Evaluates student progress and prepares reports.
• Instructs students in citizenship and basic communication skills per state standards.
• Provides individual, small and large group instruction as needed.
• Instructs students in use of textbooks, equipment and materials.
• Maintains standards of pupil behavior for an orderly environment.
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program.
• Participates in in‑service education and professional growth activities.
• Supervises out‑of‑classroom activities during the day.
• Coordinates work of aides, teacher assistants and paraprofessionals.
• Identifies student needs and collaborates with staff to address health, attitude and learning issues.
• Communicates with parents and pupil personnel staff on student progress.
• Maintains attendance accounting and related duties as required.
• Develops and participates in student activities and faculty committees.
• Acts as a resource for linking subject areas across departments.
• Maintains open lines of communication with students and parents about progress.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
