Job summary

The Newark Board of Education, serving Newark Public Schools, seeks an elementary teacher for a dynamic learning community. A valid NJ certification and a bachelor's degree are required or preferred as per NJDOE standards; employment is contingent on funds and Board approval.

The successful candidate will plan instruction, assess student progress, and communicate with families while collaborating with colleagues to support student achievement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).
• NJDOE standard certificate, CE, or CEAS as required by NJDOE for certification.

Responsibilities

• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
• Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and prepares progress reports.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communications skills and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers.
• Provides individual, small, and/or large group instruction, whenever appropriate, to adapt the curriculum to varying abilities.
• Instructs pupils in proper care and use of textbooks, equipment and materials.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior for an orderly and productive environment.
• Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, equipment, aids, and maintains inventory records.
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program of instruction.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education and growth activities.
• Supervises out-of-classroom activities for pupils during the working day.
• Plans and coordinates the work of aides and paraprofessionals.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with staff to help pupils solve problems.
• Communicates with parents and staff on pupil progress and development.
• Maintains attendance accounting and business service as required.
• Develops and participates in sponsorship of student activities and faculty committees.
• Acts as a resource on interdepartmental level to relate subject areas.
• Establishes open lines of communication with students and parents concerning academic and behavioral progress.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred), unless otherwise specified by the New Jersey Department of Education.

New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) as deemed necessary by https://www.nj.gov/education/certification/certsandtitles/
