Job summary

The Newark Board of Education invites qualified individuals to apply for the Elementary Teacher position in Newark, New Jersey. This role focuses on planning engaging instruction, assessing student progress, and maintaining a productive classroom environment within a 10-month term.

Qualifications

• NJ Department of Education Standard Certificate, CE, or CEAS as deemed necessary

Responsibilities

• Plans a program of study that meets students' needs, interests, and abilities
• Evaluates student progress regularly and prepares progress reports
• Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and general elements of the course of study
• Delivers individual, small-group, and/or large-group instruction as appropriate
• Maintains standards of pupil behavior and manages classroom environment
• Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, and maintains inventories
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program
• Participates in professional development and growth activities
• Supervises out-of-classroom activities and coordinates aides/teacher assistants
• Identifies pupils' needs and collaborates with staff to address health, attitude, and learning problems
• Communicates with parents and pupil personnel staff on progress and development
• Maintains attendance and supports student activities and faculty committees
• Acts as a resource person to relate subject areas across disciplines
• Maintains open lines of communication with students and parents about progress
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Education

Bachelor's degree (preferred)
