The ELI Specialist is responsible for coordinating services and supporting student success within the English Language Institute (ELI). The position provides academic advising, coordinates registration and enrollment processes, maintains accurate student and program records, and serves as a liaison among students, instructors, staff, the public, and College offices. Program-wide responsibilities include developing ELI course offerings and master schedules in liaison with the Director and Associate Director, coordinating instructional and classroom scheduling, monitoring enrollment and FTE, supporting outreach and recruitment activities, and assisting with program events and initiatives.
- Serve as the ELI liaison for placement examinations, coordinating placement testing processes, communicating with relevant staff and students, and supporting the accurate placement of students into appropriate ELI courses.
- Serve as the lead ELI student academic advisor, providing academic guidance to students regarding course placement, progression, registration, and available ELI program options.
- Coordinate the ELI registration and enrollment process, including training staff, overseeing registration materials, coordinating placement-related registration activities, processing registrations, and collecting and verifying registration information from community-based ESL programs.
- Develop ELI course offerings and the master class schedule in liaison with the Director and Associate Director, considering student needs, enrollment trends, instructional capacity, and program requirements.
- Contribute to ELI curriculum development and course planning in coordination with the Instructional Specialist, as needed, providing program and student enrollment information to support the development and implementation of appropriate instructional offerings.
- Coordinate ELI instructional program operations, including classroom scheduling, processing class documentation, obtaining instructional materials, and monitoring student enrollment and attendance.
- Serve as the ELI Program contact for room scheduling, maintaining accurate classroom-use schedules and coordinating space needs for ELI instructional activities.
- Assist with examination administration and security for ELI midterm and final examinations, supporting the secure handling, distribution, collection, and coordination of examinations in accordance with established College and program procedures.
- Maintain accurate ELI student, course, and enrollment records and databases, preparing student data, enrollment, and FTE reports to support program monitoring, planning, and reporting.
- Resolve student registration and non-Financial Aid accounting issues, coordinating with appropriate College offices as needed to facilitate timely resolution.
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and program events.
- Serve as a liaison among ELI students, instructors, staff, the public, and College offices, facilitating communication and responding to questions related to ELI programs and services.
- Coordinate outreach and recruitment activities for ELI programs, communicating program information to prospective and current students, community partners, and other relevant audiences to support program awareness and enrollment.
- Assist with staff development and professional learning activities in collaboration with the Instructional Specialist, including coordinating logistics, preparing materials, and supporting program-related activities.
- Serve on interview panels for ELI instructors and other staff, as needed, supporting the recruitment and selection process and providing input regarding candidate qualifications and suitability.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of special events, student engagement activities, and program projects, as needed, to support ELI initiatives and enhance the student experience.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education, Administration and Supervision, Teaching, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in program management, with strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with individuals with limited English proficiency.
- Strong communication, customer service, interpersonal, organizational, and supervisory skills.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a multicultural environment.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with adult English language learners or in an English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience supporting student advising, enrollment, registration, or academic program operations.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience with program scheduling, data management, reporting, and program evaluation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of adult English language acquisition theories and ESL instructional best practices.
- Knowledge of data collection, reporting, assessment, and program evaluation methods.
- Skill in delivering ESL instruction to adult learners in a variety of instructional settings.
