Job Goal

To help students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their development as mature, responsible, and productive citizens.

Responsibilities

1. Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated locations and times.
2. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
3. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
4. Guide the learning process toward achieving district curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
5. Prepare for classes and show evidence of preparation upon request.
6. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media suited to the location and student needs.
7. Implement the district's educational philosophy, goals, and performance expectations.
8. Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports, and communicate with parents as needed.
9. Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policies.
10. Diagnose learning challenges and seek assistance from district specialists as needed.
11. Take precautions to protect students and school property.
12. Follow the district's code of conduct, develop fair classroom rules, and enforce them.
13. Plan and supervise paraprofessional assignments and evaluate their performance.
14. Engage in ongoing professional growth to meet district and personal goals.
15. Participate in the teacher evaluation process and contribute to mutual assessment agreements.
16. Attend district and school meetings during extended hours to promote communication.
17. Participate in school-sponsored activities such as Back to School Night and Open House.
18. Contribute to district decisions on budget, facilities, curriculum, and staff well-being.
19. Maintain and improve professional competence.

Qualifications

• Highly qualified with required competency in English content area.
• Appropriate licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the grade level.
• Bachelor’s Degree with an appropriate license, or
• Master’s Degree with a content area license preferred, expected within 5 years.
