Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize advanced electrical and mechanical manufacturing test solutions, including automated test equipment, custom fixtures, and tooling.
  • Support validation and qualification of test systems, ensuring robustness, repeatability, and scalability for production environments.
  • Participate in complex debugging efforts across test equipment, instrumentation interfaces, sensors, and PCBA-level hardware, driving root cause to resolution.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends, systemic issues, and opportunities for process improvement using statistical and data-driven methods.
  • Define test strategies and requirements in partnership with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Process Engineering teams.
  • Drive improvements in test coverage, efficiency, and reliability to reduce downtime and improve throughput.
  • Support new product introduction by assisting in development of test solutions, influencing design for testability (DFT), and ensuring production readiness.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including test specifications, validation plans, procedures, and engineering reports.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance manufacturing performance and product quality.
  • Mentor junior co-ops/interns and technicians, providing technical guidance and supporting skill development.

Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Location: Beverly, MA (100% Onsite)

Travel Requirements: Up to 25% for contract manufacturing and supply chain support

About the Role

In this role, you will lead the design, development, validation, and optimization of electrical and mechanical test solutions used in Axcelis manufacturing operations. You will work independently on complex problems, while collaborating closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to define test strategies, improve coverage, and enhance system performance.

You will drive initiatives that improve product reliability, reduce cycle time, and increase throughput—directly impacting operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

This position requires strong technical depth across multiple disciplines, including electronics, mechanical design, automation, instrumentation, and data analysis, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For
Required Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience in test development, manufacturing, or related fields
Technical Skills:
  • Experience with CAD modeling software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD
  • Understanding of electrical schematics, PCB design, and debugging techniques
  • Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation, including NI DAQ, NI PXI, DMMs, oscilloscopes, DAQs, and signal analyzers
  • Experience designing and integrating automated test systems and fixtures
  • Strong data analysis skills using tools such as Excel, Minitab, Python, MATLAB, or similar
  • Familiarity with statistical methods and process control techniques (SPC preferred)
  • Experience with fabrication tools, including machining, 3D printing, and precision measurement tools
  • Ability to prioritize multiple initiatives effectively

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE

$66,565.20 - $99,847.80

This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations.

Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on

multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work

location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as

you develop within the role.

Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the

Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular

employees working 20+ hours a week).
