Job summary

Qualifications

  • BS in electrical/ mechanical/ computer/ manufacturing engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience in test development or manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with CAD and lab instrumentation; strong debugging skills.
  • Experience with automated test systems and fixtures; data analysis with Excel/Python/MATLAB.

Job description

Manufacturing Test Development Engineer II

Axcelis is a global leader in ion implantation and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, partnering with top chipmakers to drive breakthroughs that power modern technology.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and optimize advanced electrical and mechanical manufacturing test solutions, including automated test equipment, custom fixtures, and tooling.
  • Lead validation and qualification of test systems, ensuring robustness, repeatability, and scalability for production environments.
  • Own complex debugging efforts across test equipment, instrumentation interfaces, sensors, and PCBA-level hardware, driving root cause to resolution.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends, systemic issues, and opportunities for process improvement using statistical and data‑driven methods.
  • Define test strategies and requirements in partnership with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Process Engineering teams.
  • Drive improvements in test coverage, efficiency, and reliability to reduce downtime and improve throughput.
  • Support new product introduction by leading development of test solutions, influencing design for testability (DFT), and ensuring production readiness.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including test specifications, validation plans, procedures, and engineering reports.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance manufacturing performance and product quality.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and supporting skill development.
  • Coordinate and manage projects, including timelines, deliverables, and cross‑functional alignment.
Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field – advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience in test development, manufacturing, or related fields.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with CAD modeling software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, PCB design, and debugging techniques.
  • Hands‑on experience with lab instrumentation, including NI DAQ, NI PXI, DMMs, oscilloscopes, DAQs, and signal analyzers.
  • Experience designing and integrating automated test systems and fixtures.
  • Strong data analysis skills using tools such as Excel, Python, MATLAB, or similar.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods and process control techniques (SPC preferred).
  • Experience with fabrication tools, including machining, 3D printing, and precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to manage technical projects and prioritize multiple initiatives effectively.

Compensation

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE $116,331.60 - $174,497.40. This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations. Individual pay is determined by multiple factors, including job‑related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work location, and internal equity.

Benefits

Eligibility in the Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan and a comprehensive benefits package for regular employees working 20+ hours a week.
