Job summary

The City of Roanoke's Engineering Division is seeking an Engineering Technician II to provide complex technical support for design, construction and inspection of engineering improvement projects.

Responsibilities include construction management, field surveying, CAD/GIS work, and preparing base maps and reports; support for permit processes and project documentation will be part of the role.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in civil engineering technology; 5–10 years related experience in engineering/traffic engineering support and inspection.
• Experience with computer aided drafting (CAD) and design work in civil/traffic engineering software.
• Valid driver's permit.
• Strong field inspection, reporting and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides construction management services and reviews contractor pay requests and change orders; acts as owner's representative for capital projects.
• Conducts field inspections and prepares daily construction reports for compliance with approved plans.
• Provides field engineering to resolve issues beyond the original project scope.
• Coordinates Right of Way permits; reviews permit applications and tracks permits.
