Job summary

The City of Roanoke seeks an Engineering Technician to provide technical support for design, construction, and inspection of engineering improvement projects. Responsibilities include data collection, CAD drawing preparation, and coordination with departments on public works projects.

Requirements include an Associate's degree in civil engineering technology or equivalent and 3–5 years of paraprofessional engineering experience with CAD work. Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s permit.

Qualifications

• This position requires an Associate's degree or equivalent in civil engineering technology, with related paraprofessional experience.
• Strong ability to read, interpret, and analyze technical documents and maps.
• Proficiency in CAD and related civil engineering software is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect data for design and construction of public works projects.
• Prepare complete design drawings and maps and coordinate with other departments.
• Prepare project specifications and perform engineering calculations.
• Assist in site plan reviews, highway plans, flood plains, and drainage projects.
• Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans.
