Job summary

City of Caldwell is seeking an Engineering Technician I to assist in field surveys and inspections for the Engineering Department. The role works under supervision of the Project Engineer, City Engineer, or Project Manager, combining fieldwork with office tasks in a team-focused environment.

Requirements include a High School diploma or GED with civil engineering coursework (or equivalent). A valid driver's license and pre-employment background check are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED, supplemented by coursework in civil engineering or related field.
• Any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Responsibilities

• Assist in inspections on projects for conformance with plans and specifications.
• Assist in performing routine construction surveying tasks.
• Reduce field notes.
• Review building permits, right‑of‑way permits and other construction related permits as it pertains to public works.
• Compile minor documents pertaining to development and construction to be presented to City Council.
• Perform elementary engineering calculations.
• Bring areas of non‑compliance to attention of contractor and direct corrective actions.
• Keep supervisor informed concerning work progress and problems.
• Attend meetings, conferences, trainings and review publications to stay current on engineering practices.
• Communicate and coordinate with others to maximize interdepartmental efficiency.
• Maintain positive professional working relationships with employees and others.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
