Generac Power Systems Inc. in Wisconsin is seeking an Engineering Technician I to support electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing on current and new product designs under close supervision.

You will set up test equipment, run tests on prototypes and existing products, record data, assist with assembly and fabrication, and help maintain documentation and BOM guidelines while supporting audits and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year experience participating in project teams.
  • 1 year experience using engine dynamometers.
  • Familiarity with electrical measurement equipment such as multimeters and power analyzers.
  • General knowledge of combustion engines.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Set up test equipment and products in the correct sequence according to approved test procedures.
  • Perform testing on prototypes, existing products, and competitor products based on defined criteria.
  • Accurately interpret, record, and document measurement data.
  • Assist with the assembly and fabrication of test equipment and prototypes.
  • Follow guidelines related to bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Support manufacturing through troubleshooting activities.
  • Maintain test-related documentation in databases and assist with audits.
  • Prepare formal and informal test reports.

This role supports continuous improvement initiatives to reduce the potential for product defects and contributes to laboratory operations in accordance with established standards and procedures.Key ResponsibilitiesSet up test equipment and products in the correct sequence in accordance with approved test procedures.Perform testing on prototypes, existing products, and competitor products based on defined criteria involving mechanical, electrical, environmental, and electromechanical functions, in compliance with ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of Operations.Utilize a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic measurement instruments.Accurately interpret, record, and document scientific notation, temperature, pressure, and other measurement data.Assist with the assembly and fabrication of test equipment and prototype products according to blueprint specifications.Follow guidelines related to bills of materials (BOMs).Support manufacturing through troubleshooting activities.Maintain test-related documentation within database systems and assist with database administration as required.Prepare formal and informal test reports.Assist with Engineering Laboratory audits and support 5S workplace organization initiatives.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalentPreferred Qualifications and Experience1 year experience participating in project teams1 year experience using specialized equipment such as engine dynamometersExperience participating in cross-functional or project teamsFamiliarity with electrical measurement equipment such as multimeters, power analyzers, and similar instrumentsWelding and general fabrication experienceGeneral knowledge of combustion enginesKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesBasic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and WordAbility to work non-standard or extended hours when requiredDemonstrated self-motivation and ability to complete projects within established guidelinesAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsAptitude to coordinate and manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneouslyBasic understanding of electrical techniques and theoriesDemonstrated testing competency in accordance with ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of OperationsAbility to provide and maintain a basic personal tool setPhysical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.
