Job summary

Generac Power Systems Inc. in Whitewater, Wisconsin, seeks an Engineering Technician II to support electrical, mechanical and environmental testing of new product designs under supervision.

You will work with Engineering to identify problems, document results, and drive containment and corrective actions, while helping maintain ISO 17025 compliance and a well-organized lab. A high school diploma and some lab experience are required; proficiency with test equipment and basic fabrication skills

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant test or lab experience.
  • Experience with basic electrical measuring equipment (DVOM, clamp meter, IR thermometer).
  • Experience with wire harness assembly and tools.
  • Experience with engine dynamometers; welding or metal fabrication is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Set up test equipment and products in proper sequence per testing procedures.
  • Perform tests on prototypes and products for mechanical, electrical, environmental criteria per ISO 17025.
  • Use measurement devices and document results with scientific notation.
  • Assist in assembling test equipment and prototypes per blueprints.
  • Support lab audits and 5S programs; maintain test-related documentation.

Works with Engineering and is involved with problem identification, containment activities, action plan creation and execution. Ensures that the test requirements for product testing and processes are defined and met. Coordinates continuous improvement activities to reduce the potential for product defects. The Engineering Technician II reports to an Engineering Supervisor and/or Manager.Responsibilities:Setup test equipment and products in proper sequence per testing proceduresPerform tests on prototypes, existing, and competitor products for stated criteria involving mechanical, electrical, environmental, and electromechanical functions through ISO 17025 and Laboratory Scope of OperationsUse various mechanical, electrical, and electronic measurement devicesAccurately interpret and document scientific notation, temperature, pressure, and other measurementsAssists in the assembly and fabrication of test equipment and prototype products per blueprint specificationsFollow guidelines for bill of materialsSupport manufacturing through troubleshooting activities; Maintain test-related documentation in, and support administration of, database environmentPrepare formal and informal test reportsAssist with the Generac Engineering Laboratory Audit and organization 5S programsRequirements:High School Diploma or equivalentProficient with Microsoft Office Applications2 years of relevant work experiencePreferred QualificationsExperience participating in project teamsExperience with basic electrical measuring equipment (DVOM, clamp meter, IR, thermometer, wet-dry thermometer, etc)Experience with wire harness assembly and toolsExperience using specialized equipment such as engine dynamometersExperience in welding , shaping sheet metal, mill or turning (dependent on lab location).Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds.
