Job summary

Jobtailor in the New York area seeks an experienced Electrical/PLC Technician to join our maintenance team. You will read and interpret ladder logic, diagnose faults, and support electrical panel construction for in-house projects while adhering to NFPA and Hydro standards.

You'll work with engineers and technicians to optimize processes, ensure safety, and maintain 5S workflows. The role requires hands-on experience with 480V three-phase systems and precision measurement tools.

Qualifications

  • High proficiency in reading and interpreting existing ladder logic, specifically Allen-Bradley, to identify fault conditions and verify inputs/outputs.
  • Bridge physical electrical components and their digital representation in a PLC program.
  • Competent working with 480VAC (3-phase) and 24VDC low-voltage control circuits.
  • Skilled in using trade equipment such as drill presses, band saws, and knockouts.
  • Proficient with precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to work from verbal instructions, prints, sketches, and schematics.
  • Ability to ensure work meets national and local codes, NFPA, Hydro standards, HSE, quality, productivity, and 5S requirements

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to build, modify, and test prototypes and new manufacturing processes.
  • Utilize PLC ladder logic as a diagnostic tool to monitor program flow and identify root causes of hardware or sequence failures.
  • Connect to PLC processors to observe I/O status and verify signal paths before mechanical intervention.
  • Lead construction of electrical panels for in-house projects in accordance with NFPA and Hydro standards.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for the maintenance team on complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Work from verbal instructions, prints, sketches, and schematics while meeting national and local codes.
  • Identify and recommend process enhancements to maximize facility efficiencies and 5S standards.
  • Perform related duties to maintain workflow or respond to emergency conditions.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area according to 5S standards.
  • Perform duties according to standard methods and procedures with strict adherence to HSE, quality, and productivity requirements
