Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an Electronics Technician to diagnose and troubleshoot plant control systems in a US facility. You will calibrate instrumentation, work with PLCs, read P&IDs, and maintain meticulous records in support of safe, efficient operations.

The role requires an Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience, plus hands-on experience with SLC/PLC programming and instrumentation calibration. Training and normal metalworking conditions apply.

  • Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in SLC/PLC programming and hardware architecture.
  • Understanding of manufacturing plant processes.
  • Calibration and maintenance of electronic/pneumatic instrumentation, controls and PLC systems.
  • Ability to read and follow safety procedures and operating instructions.
  • Experience maintaining calibration records and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot plant control and automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical systems, packaging equipment, and instrumentation to minimize downtime.
  • Design and supervise new control installations when required.
  • Perform routine plant calibrations using test equipment.
  • Maintain records, work instructions, changeover sheets, and equipment logbooks.
  • Calibrate electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical instrumentation.
  • Interface with vendors for needed components.
  • Write and debug PLC programs.
  • Provide accurate documentation per SOPs and instructions.
  • Assist in training others and support continuous improvement.

Job description

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot plant control and automation systems
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of mechanical systems, packaging equipment, and instrumentation devices while minimizing downtime
  • Occasionally design and supervise new control installations
  • Use test equipment to perform routine plant calibrations
  • Maintain meticulous records and complete work instructions, line changeover sheets, critical control point sheets, and equipment logbooks
  • Calibrate electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical instrumentation
  • Maintain instrument and electrical system components and calibration documentation
  • Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot plant control systems and equipment
  • Define instrumentation requirements and troubleshoot power and control systems
  • Review system drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals
  • Operate interface devices for programmable controllers and computers for program changes and troubleshooting
  • Write and debug PLC programs
  • Interface with vendors when necessary
  • Assist in training others
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation according to SOPs and work instructions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Completion of a high school diploma, General Education Development (GED) or equivalency
  • Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of training and work experience
  • Proficiency at SLC/PLC programming and hardware architecture
  • Understanding of manufacturing plant processes
  • Proficiency in calibration and maintenance of electronic/pneumatic instrumentation, controls and PLC systems
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English sufficiently to follow safety protocols, operating procedures, regulatory signage, and verbal instructions
  • Must meet all locally defined training requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds, potentially up to 30 pounds overhead
  • Ability to walk and stand on concrete floors for up to 12 hours
  • Ability to stoop, squat, bend, and frequently grasp objects and small hand tools
  • Sufficient visual and audio acuity to work safely and accurately in an industrial environment
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Ability to comply with locally required worker safety, environmental and health practices
  • 3 years of experience as an electronics technician, calibrating and troubleshooting electronic/pneumatic instrumentation, controls, and PLC control systems preferred
  • Ability to maintain meticulous calibration records
  • Ability to interpret and initiate drawings, sketches, and logic diagrams

Demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and troubleshooting plant control and automation systems, with a strong focus on calibration and maintenance of electronic and pneumatic instrumentation. Proficient in SLC/PLC programming and capable of maintaining meticulous documentation and compliance with safety protocols.
