Job summary

Stoughton Trailers, LLC in Wisconsin seeks an experienced Automation Maintenance Technician to support production lines and facilities. You will maintain and troubleshoot CNC equipment, robotics, PLCs, and electrical systems to maximize OEE.

You will lead efforts with maintenance, engineering, and operations to implement reliable controls, perform programming changes, calibrations, and safety-compliant installations across the plant.

Qualifications

• 2-year degree in automation, robotics, controls or related engineering discipline.
• 8+ years of automation, robotics, and controls experience.
• NFPA 70E Certification required.
• OSHA Certification preferred.
• Ability to create, modify and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and prints.
• Willingness to learn Lean concepts.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in automation and controls.

Job description

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Ensure production and facilities equipment is operational by responding to emergency, routine, and preventive maintenance.
• Equipment includes but not limited to CNC equipment, robotics, control systems, pumps, welders, punches, presses, shears, cranes, hoists, conveyors, heating and cooling ventilation systems, electrical systems, small hand tools, pneumatic, hydraulic equipment, and paint equipment.
• Work with all electrical components, relays, sensors, ac and dc motors, drivers, servo systems and pneumatics systems.
• Perform PLC program creation and modifications and electronic modifications to production equipment.
• Work with voltages ranging from 5 VAC to 600 VAC.
• Provide and coordinate production reliability improvement efforts and equipment troubleshooting support as needed with the production, maintenance, and engineering teams.
• Coordinate trade and OEM-service contractors, certifying that work requested is performed as expected while conforming to safety standards.
• Serve as the gatekeeper of all control and electrical drawings and primary electrical/controls resource. Maintain all PLC/HMI programs for compounding, packaging and building systems, edit and write PLC programs, create/modify HMI screens, and perform basic electrical troubleshooting and functional modifications.
• Collaborate on team projects to problem-solve and improve processes and procedures that improve OEE, safety, quality, and work environment.
• Focus on equipment reliability and seek out opportunities to drive manufacturing capacity and capabilities within the factory.
• Exercises independent decision-making to perform complex troubleshooting, installation, design, modification, fabrication, repair, assembly, calibration, moving, alignment, rebuilding, testing, and inspections on a broad range of complex tools, equipment and facilities; including electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronics, PLC, computer controls, robotics, automation, machinery, motors, controls, etc.
• Operate all types of tools and machines essential to the job, including but not limited to electrical meter, hand tools, hand-held power tools, torches, grinders, welders, forklifts, aerial lifts, overhead cranes, and computer equipment.
• Calibrate, Align, Troubleshoot, and Repair equipment utilizing prints, schematics, diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, engineering specifications.
• Assist in diagnosing, locating, and repairing complex equipment breakdowns by observing equipment in operation, listening for problems, using precision measuring/testing instruments, best shop practices, and utilizing root cause analysis tools.
• Resolve problems with assistance from peers, Production employees, and/or Supervisor depending on the level and complexity. Following defined procedures and practices.
• Learn and show basic knowledge of automation & control, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic system.
• Follow all job and environmental safety requirements (Lock Out Tag Out, Electrical Safety and Arc Flash Prevention, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Hazardous Material Handling and Disposal, etc.)
• Controls downtime by monitoring equipment, informing leadership of breakdown, and utilizing quality maintenance techniques.
• Safely and proficiently perform maintenance related activities of equipment, facilities, and grounds.
• Suggest and implement improvements to existing equipment and/or designs to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
• Assist in machine and fixture set‑ups.
• Assist in designing, fabricating, and equipment as required.
• Learn techniques for maintenance of new and existing equipment.
• Provides technical support to project managers and engineers on projects.
• Assist in rigging, lifting, and relocating a variety of complex, heavy machines, equipment, and components.
• Work is supervised daily or weekly with assignments that encompass a well‑defined set of tasks following established procedures, processes, or policies.
• Perform maintenance inventory and operate a maintenance database.
• Perform all assigned tasks in a safe, efficient, timely, accurate and highly productive manner according to company policy.
• Contribute to the team effort to produce a quality product and complete tasks and training.
• Must provide own tools and perform maintenance tasks.
• Ability to work mandatory overtime. Other duties may be assigned by the company.

Qualifications

• Education:
  • 2-year degree in automation, robotics, controls, electrical, or any relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent industrial automation controls experience. Required
  • 8+ years of experience in automation, robotics, and controls. Required
• Licenses/Certifications:
  • NFPA 70E Certification required.
  • OSHA Certification preferred.
• Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Ability to create, modify and troubleshoot complex PLC programs and HMI programs and read electrical schematics. Required
  • Must have the ability to work at a fast pace, be open to new and different things, and express opinions regarding work methods and blueprints. Must be willing to take responsibility for mistakes.
