The Engineering Technician provides direct technical and project support for manufacturing systems across factory operations. This role is responsible for designing, building, installing, maintaining, and improving equipment and infrastructure to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. Responsibilities include managing change control documentation, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and executing small to medium-sized capital and maintenance projects to improve plant processes and utilities.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Conducts estimation, planning, and execution of maintenance and investment projects for manufacturing facilities.
- Develops project parameters, timelines, resource requirements, and cost estimates.
- Administers upgrades, modifications, and new installations to maintain and improve operational efficiency.
- Applies a hands-on approach to project execution with strong mechanical aptitude.
- Works in a diverse, fast-paced manufacturing environment and demonstrates a high level of initiative and accountability.
Technical & Technician Functions
- Designs, builds, installs, and modifies new and existing equipment, layouts, structures, and procedures for continuous improvement and construction projects across multiple facilities.
- Provides primary technical support and troubleshooting to maintain and improve facility equipment and infrastructure.
- Maintains processing equipment and ensures reliable operation of assigned systems.
- Maintains programming, configuration, and operational functionality of assigned equipment.
- Ensures all changes follow established guidelines and procedures, including written management approval and clearly defined scope.
- Issues, maintains, and updates documentation such as process descriptions, PFDs, P&IDs, and other change control records following implementation.
- Performs field observation and technical oversight during construction, installation, and modification activities.
- Practices and trains others on proactive, solution-based maintenance fundamentals to increase performance and reduce downtime.
- Assists with maintenance project scope development and execution by contributing technical expertise and recommendations.
- Facilitates task and project execution through clear, effective communication.
- Solicits and incorporates feedback from plant associates to support project development and successful implementation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot complex equipment issues.

- Working knowledge of fabrication, welding practices, and machine tools.
- Ability to read and understand PFDs, P&IDs, and basic electrical circuits.
- Proficiency with Autodesk products (Inventor and/or AutoCAD).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of HACCP, GMPs, and SOPs.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or related field plus 2 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or related field.
- 5 years of mechanical or manufacturing technical experience in an industrial environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience managing small to medium-sized projects.
- Knowledge of fabrication and welding practices.
- Familiarity with machine tools and their functions.
Physical Requirements
- Mobility: Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in plant environments.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and arms to operate tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier items.
- Visual Acuity: Ability to see close details for inspections, drawings, and documentation, and distance vision for monitoring work areas.
- Working Conditions: Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces under controlled conditions.
- Work is performed primarily in manufacturing and industrial plant environments.
- May spend up to 85% of work time in the field, physically working on projects.
- Exposure to moving machinery, noise, vibration, dust, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
- Must be comfortable working in extreme temperatures ranging from Texas heat to 20°F below zero.
- Strict adherence to hygienic practices, safety procedures, and use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
