Job summary

GE Aerospace is seeking an Engineering Tech for the Beavercreek site to program laser and tool room CNC equipment and support tooling development. You will read drawings, interpret specifications, and collaborate with design to ensure quality hardware and efficient processes.

You will create and maintain CNC programs, troubleshoot floor issues, and drive cost-out and quality projects while mentoring shop personnel and coordinating with engineering and production leaders.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Four years of progressive manufacturing experience.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and be 18+.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain CNC programs for milling, turning, EDM, and laser processes.
  • Develop shop tooling and procedures; qualify equipment.
  • Troubleshoot floor issues and provide leadership feedback.
  • Provide technical guidance to shop floor personnel.
  • Lead cost-out, quality, and EHS projects using GE Flight Deck Lean methods.
  • Support problem solving to ensure continuous product flow.

Working At Our Beavercreek Site

GE Aerospace operations have been part of the Beavercreek community for over 75 years! Our Beavercreek facility on Research Blvd. manufactures gas turbine tubes, ducts, and manifolds, and also has complex machining, fabrication and investment casting capabilities. Product engineering, new product development and testing is performed on site. This facility also does repair and overhaul of tubes, ducts, and manifolds. Our location on Heller drive manufactures turbine airfoils and has a focus on next generation technology. We have been awarded OSHAS’s highest safety rating.

Role Overview

This role will be responsible for providing engineering and shop support to OEM and CR operations by introducing and maintaining programming and tooling for the tool room CNC equipment as well as all laser cutting processes. Primary functions include procuring tooling through ESR system and working with design. Creating and maintain all programs associated with these processes. Reading and interpreting drawings for creation and inspection of hardware. Trouble shooting issues on the floor and providing feedback to leadership as needed. Identify, lead, and implement cost-out, quality, and EHS projects by utilizing available tools such as Flight Deck (GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating model). Must work closely with engineering team and production leaders to drive projects that will support operational goals. This position has the potential to grow into a GE certifying agent for laser processes.

  • Creating and maintaining CNC programs associated with milling, turning, EDM, and various laser processes.
  • Help develop shop tooling and procedures as well as qualification of equipment.
  • Trouble shoot issues on the floor and provide feedback to leadership as needed.
  • Give shopfloor EE’s technical guidance.
  • Identify, lead, and implement cost-out, quality, and EHS projects by utilizing available tools such as Flight Deck (GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating model).
  • Support with problem solving in order to ensure continuous product flow.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Four years of progressive experience in manufacturing positions (This may include, but is not limited to: Tool Building, Production, Inspection, Engineering or other related technical experience)
  • Proven ability to initiate and complete projects.
  • History of hands on involvement with manufacturing issues.
  • Knowledge of tube fabrication (i.e. metal removal, metal forming, and fabrication techniques).
  • This role may encounter high risk or hazardous operations and/or include working shifts beyond a standard workweek. As such, a requirement of the role is to be at least 18 years of age by the time of joining.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • CNC programming experience including multi-axis machining
  • Experience with tool / fixture design and build
  • Experience with Unigraphics, Solidworks, Inventor, or other 3D CAD/CAM software
  • Experience with TruTops/Boost laser programming software
  • Willingness to grow into GE certifying agent for laser processes
  • Experience in Oracle, MAPICs or some type of ERP System
  • Excellent personal computer (PC) skills including Microsoft excel
  • Ability to set realistic, yet challenging project and operational goals
  • Trained in six sigma tools and applications
  • Familiar with Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Experience in specifying and providing economic justification for purchase of capital equipment
  • Experience writing work instructions and training operators in those instructions
  • Familiarity with AL-231 Manufacturing Operation Sheets and / or AL-237 Quality Planning Maintenance
  • Proven ability to initiate and complete projects
  • Proven planning and leadership ability of multiple and concurrent projects
  • Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to listen to and motivate others
  • History of hands-on involvement with manufacturing issues

  • Ability to work in an area where there is moderate noise intensity (85 to 8-9 dBa)
  • Ability to work in an area where, due to normal machining operations, there may be dust, fumes or smoke (not over OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels (PEL))
