Home Depot is seeking a Lab Technician to join the Global Brand & Product Development team. The role focuses on constructing test rigs, running tests, and reviewing outcomes to support new product development and production performance.

You will work with Product Engineering, Product Development, and Quality teams to ensure testing aligns with internal SOPs and industry standards, manage data documentation, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in a lab environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • 70% Test Execution - Conduct product testing per protocols and standards; set up test rigs and document procedures.
  • 10% Data Evaluation - Document data, analyze failures, and propose corrective actions with the team.
  • 10% Project Planning - Collaborate with engineers on testing requirements and improve test plans.
  • 5% Automation - Basic coding for PLC, PID, or Raspberry Pi.
  • 5% Maintenance - Maintain 5S lab organization and clean work area.

Job description

Position Purpose:

The Lab Technician plays a crucial role in the Global Brand & Product Development team, requiring meticulous attention to detail, strong technical skills, and effective communication. Collaborating with Product Engineering, Product Development, and Quality teams, they contribute to project goals, providing essential support for new product development, and production performance. Responsibilities encompass constructing test rigs, executing testing, and reviewing results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 70% Test Execution - Execute product testing following protocols in accordance with applicable test standards. This will include, but not be limited to, tests for: functional safety, mechanical operation, environmental conditions, reliability, performance, failure modes, and usability. Set up test rigs and document test procedures based on both internal and industry standards. Ensure test design follows lab Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as applicable and that all activities are completed on time.
  • 10% Data Evaluation - Document test data clearly and accurately, following Standard Operating Procedures. Evaluate test failures, determine root causes, and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Work with Test Engineer and/or Test Supervisor to determine any additional testing needed.
  • 10% Project Planning - Participate on project teams and work directly with Product Engineers and Test Engineer to understand product and determine applicable testing. Offer input on suitable test rigs, recommend modifications to improve testing plans' effectiveness, and contribute to discussions on test methods, techniques, and tools.
  • 5% Automation - Basic skills in developing code for PLC, PID and or Raspberry pi.
  • 5% Maintenance - Participate in 5S organization in the lab and ensure work area(s) meet 5S standards.

Travel Requirements:
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 5% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, and lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
Working Conditions:
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience in a testing or laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with 5S principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and WIs precisely.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Possess excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills
  • Experience handling multiple concurrent project assignments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience designing and building test rigs and fixtures
  • Proficient in the use of hand and measurement tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, drills, bandsaws, calipers, micrometers, and scales
