Job description

Position Summary

The Technical Specialist’s primary responsibility is to assure the laboratory facilities and equipment are ready and available for use. Perform the mechanical and/or electrical build, test, calibration, and repair work on components, and equipment. Troubleshooting duties may fall outside of established standards, specifications and instructions. Work under the general direction of the Engineering Manager, with assistance only as needed to handle unusual situations. Occasionally instructs lesser-experienced technicians. Work duties involve a definite degree of skill, accuracy and coordination.

Responsibilities of Position
  • Keeps supervision informed of developments as needed.
  • Calibration of gauges and instruments onsite, coordination of calibration done by vendors onsite and offsite.
  • Repairs and maintains and coordinates vendor repair and maintenance of equipment as needed.
  • Maintains records on work performed, analyzes data collected and reports results.
  • Generated job instructions as needed for repetitive tasks.
  • Installs, operates and maintains shop or laboratory test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Develops and builds shop or laboratory test fixtures.
  • Assists by providing laboratory service in support of external standards including ISO 17025, IATF 16949, Quality Control audits and evaluation of customer issues.
  • Ensures good housekeeping, safety practices and the availability of adequate supplies and equipment.
  • Frequent contact with others outside work group.
  • Analyzes problems involving the gathering and interpreting of data.
  • Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.
Skill Requirements
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Some analytical ability where problems are not difficult or complex.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
  • Written and verbal communications basic skills.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of recommended Corporate Training programs.
Physical Requirements
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
Working Conditions
  • Occasionally lift and / or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Maneuvers in, around and under factory and/or laboratory equipment on a regular and continuous basis.
  • Some of work time is spent standing, walking, lifting and bending.
  • Works within an industrial laboratory setting and may be exposed to heat, cold and fumes/chemicals. Must be capable of utilizing provided PPE effectively.
