Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting for a Materials Engineering Specialist for a 12-month contract assignment supporting the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant near Richland, WA. The role offers a W2 hourly base rate with time and a half for overtime, per diem, and mobilization/demobilization. The client targets $67.00/hour.

U.S. citizenship is required. The Materials Engineer will provide engineering support and technical guidance to the engineering disciplines for the HLW vitrification design

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related discipline with at least 2 years of experience, or a doctorate in engineering.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Experience in calculations and design for hydraulics, equipment sizing, and overall system design for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical facilities.

  • Serve as the resident material technology expert for the WTP project.
  • Complete reviews following procedures and ensure technical adequacy per codes and standards.
  • Coordinate with other groups to resolve issues.
  • Revise material specifications and design deliverables.
  • Facilitate communication with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with other technical disciplines as an integrated team.
  • Complete tasks within budget and schedule.
  • Support the nuclear safety quality culture in day-to-day work.

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting for a Materials Engineering Specialist for a 12‑month contract assignment supporting the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant near Richland, WA. The role offers a W2 hourly base rate with time and a half for overtime, per diem, and mobilization/demobilization. The client targets $67.00/hour.

Position Description

U.S. citizenship is required. The Materials Engineer will provide engineering support and technical guidance to the engineering disciplines for the HLW vitrification design and fabrication processes. The Engineer will perform in‑depth analysis, develop material engineering solutions to address emergent issues, develop and maintain specifications, and resolve material quality problems. Responsibilities include reviewing and performing engineering design deliverables to ensure technical adequacy in areas such as coatings, material selection, compatibility, protection, welding, and metallurgy. The role interfaces with other engineering disciplines, functional groups, and the project to solve complex issues associated with the High‑Level Waste Facility, supporting Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC). The Engineer will work under the direction of senior specialists and project engineers, interacting effectively with all levels of staff.

Position Responsibilities
  • Serve as the resident material technology expert for the WTP project.
  • Complete reviews and assigned tasks following procedures while assuring technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.
  • Coordinate with other groups to resolve issues.
  • Revise material specifications and design deliverables.

  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
  • Complete assigned engineering tasks within budget and schedule.
  • Support and implement the nuclear safety quality culture in day‑to‑day work activities.
Basic Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related discipline from an accredited college or university with at least 2 years of experience, or a doctorate in engineering.
  • Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Related experience in performing calculations and design, including documentation related to hydraulics, equipment sizing, and overall system design for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.
