Job summary

Tesco Controls, part of United Flow Technologies (UFT), is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead engineering resources and balance demand across panel design, PLC/SCADA, networking, and commissioning. The role combines leadership with hands-on engineering and requires travel up to 10%, with on-site work in Sacramento.

This position emphasizes a non-traditional management path, focusing on project execution, technical credibility, and collaboration with Project Management and manufacturing teams

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in a technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years in industrial automation / systems integration with hands-on engineering execution.
• Experience in PLC/SCADA/industrial networking or commissioning.
• Knowledge of UL 508A, UL 891, UL 845 and working with UL-qualified manufacturing personnel.
• Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D design workflows.
• Ability to allocate resources across multiple projects in a matrix environment.
• Professional Engineer registration is valued but not required.

Responsibilities

• Manage engineering demand, capacity, and project milestones across multiple design and testing areas.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to assign resources and balance workloads.
• Select engineers based on capability, risk, and priorities.
• Contribute technically on projects with engineering review, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Identify training and succession needs to grow the Automation Engineer workforce.
• Support manufacturability of panels and production readiness before customer submittal.
• Engage in matrix initiatives without creating a separate hierarchy.
• Utilize performance data to improve future planning and execution.
• Participate in shop walkthroughs to monitor progress from fabrication to field execution.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Controls Automation / Mechanical Engineering with controls emphasis
