Job summary

Tesco Controls, a UFT company, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead engineering resource planning and deliver technical leadership for panel design, PLC, SCADA/HMI, and commissioning. This on-site Sacramento role requires collaboration with Project Managers and manufacturing to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant project execution.

You will balance demand and capacity, assign engineers by capability, mentor staff, and contribute technically on major projects, traveling up to 10% as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Typically 10+ years of industrial automation/systems-integration experience.
• Strong understanding of UL 508A, UL 891 and UL 845.
• Experience with SolidWorks or model-based design workflows.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a rolling view of engineering demand, capacity, capability, and project milestones across panel design, PLC, SCADA/HMI, networking/telemetry, FAT, and commissioning.
• Meet closely with Project Managers to assign resources, anticipate shortages, rebalance workloads, resolve conflicts, and support schedule recovery.
• Assign engineers based on demonstrated capability, development needs, project risk, and priorities beyond historical boundaries.
• Serve as a senior technical contributor on selected projects; perform engineering, technical review, troubleshooting, estimating support, FAT, or commissioning.
• Assess engineering capability and identify targeted training, mentoring, recruiting, and succession needs.
• Support development of a broad Automation Engineer workforce in which panel design is foundational and PLC/SCADA/networking skills overlap.
• Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure panels are manufacturable and production-ready before customer submittal.
• Support matrix initiatives without creating a permanent parallel hierarchy.
• Use project performance data to improve future resource planning and technical execution.
• Participate in regular shop walks and maintain visibility of panels in fabrication, assembly, wire, test, FAT, and field execution.
