Job summary

Tesco Controls in Sacramento, CA is seeking an Automation Engineer to design and build electrical/control panels, program PLCs, and configure SCADA/HMI applications across the engineering lifecycle. This role requires up to 10% travel and hands-on collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering and project teams.

You'll work with SolidWorks 3D/Electrical, industrial networks, and standard control practices to deliver robust automation solutions for water, wastewater, and critical infrastructure

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 3–8 years in industrial automation, systems integration, or OEM controls.
• Experience with panel design using SolidWorks 3D or similar MBSE tools.
• Experience with PLC environments such as Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or equivalents.
• Experience with at least one HMI/SCADA platform (Ignition, Wonderware, VTScada, FactoryTalk, etc.).
• Knowledge of industrial protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA).
• Willingness to travel up to 10% and work in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Design complete industrial electrical/control panels and 3D models in SolidWorks.
• Coordinate model validation with Manufacturing Engineering and resolve design issues for production readiness.
• Develop or support PLC applications, including I/O configuration, logic, sequences, and commissioning.
• Develop or support SCADA/HMI applications including graphics, alarms, trends, and operator usability.
• Configure industrial networks and telemetry systems, including switches and communication links.
• Create control-system documentation, test procedures, FAT scripts, and commissioning records.
• Participate in factory testing, startup, and field commissioning; assist with risk and resource management.
