Job summary

The City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking an Engineering Project Manager to lead capital improvement projects in water and wastewater infrastructure. You will manage engineers, consultants, and contractors across planning, design, permitting, bidding, construction, and warranty phases, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery with quality assurance.

Ideal candidates hold a Florida PE license or related credentials, with at least three years in construction management within public works.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering or another related field.
  • Must possess at least three (3) years' experience in construction management and/or public works engineering water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering consultants and contractors during the design and construction of Community Investment P projects; perform site inspections; ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and with high levels of quality assurance
  • Manages numerous complex municipal public works and utility projects in various phases: planning, design, permitting, bidding, construction, inspection, and warranty with focus on water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Develop construction level engineering design plans and calculations
  • Prepares, negotiates, executes, and manages task orders for professional consultants and contractors
  • Prepares and oversees RFPs, RFQs and other bidding documents in compliance with codes
  • Provides analysis, evaluation and recommendation for award of contract; prepares projects for bid
  • Reviews and approves contractor and consultant pay requests
  • Develops and monitors project scope, budget, and schedule
  • Prepares reports for upper management and stakeholder information
  • Provides technical information and guidance on municipal projects; resolves project issues
  • Prepares required municipal, state, and federal reports; prepares memorandums and related correspondence
  • Produces construction documents and specifications
  • Coordinates with other City departments, external agencies and applicants
  • Drafts commission memorandum for Commission Approval
  • Develops presentations and speaks on behalf of City projects to HOAs, committees, and City Commission officials
  • Performs related work as required
