Job summary

DelDOT is seeking an Engineering/Planning/Surveying Technician IV to manage and administer NCC projects, including street and entrance work, safety permits, utilities, drainage, and ROW inspections.

Night/weekend work is required; a valid driver's license is mandatory. The role involves supervising inspectors, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with codes and designs within Delaware's transportation system.

Qualifications

  • Three years experience in reviewing construction plans and details, project plans, specifications, schematics or technical drawings to determine compliance.
  • Six months experience in planning, organizing and directing crews involved in on-site sampling, testing, inspection and documentation of construction progress and project completion.
  • Six months experience in project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating projects to ensure objectives are met.
  • Three years experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  • Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through coursework or work as lead worker supervising others; OR supervising staff.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects infrastructures to ensure compliance with design plans, materials specifications, safety requirements, construction processes, codes and maintenance requirements; documents and reports compliance or deficiencies.
  • Designs, develops, or reviews engineering project or site layouts, alignments, profiles, studies, graphs, and other related activities.
  • Compiles and records notes, sketches, test results, inspection data, and other information to document compliance and/or develop designs, specifications, reports, maps, and other geographically based data.
  • Conducts various studies to be used by others to analyze needs or develop plans, record characteristics, and other related activities.
  • Conducts data analysis to determine accuracy of data collected, develop recommendations, develop corrective designs, and/or ensure compliance.
  • Tests or evaluates the quality of materials or designs to verify adherence to contracts and specifications.
  • Obtains survey data such as angles, elevations, points, and contours using electronic distance measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.
  • Calculates or measures area and volume dimensions, horizontal and vertical geometry, profile and component specifications, and material testing dimensions using calculators or computers.
  • Operates computer assisted drafting equipment or other tools of the trade, and uses automated information systems and computer software to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve, and report on data.
  • Reads and interprets plans, specification, blueprints, and other engineering documents.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Job description

Summary Statement

This position is responsible for managing/administering
projects in NCC, including construction for subdivision streets, commercial
& residential entrances, safety permits, utility installation, industrial
street agreements, and drainage system installation. Supervision of inspectors
to ensure quality of work within ROW; documents quality control, prepare
inspection reports. Night and weekend
work required. This position is
considered Report When Contacted (RWC) and may have to report during emergency
situations and severe weather events. Must maintain a valid driver's license.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineering/Planning/Surveying Technician IV

  • Public Works:
  • Three years experience in reviewing construction plans and details, project plans, specifications, schematics or technical drawings to determine compliance.

  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
